While Trix comes face to face with a dragon, Eight is tested by Raspy and Rou’s left to the mercy of the gods.
Trix dangles from the window ledge, nearly falling to their death, when they realize a patch of sky seems to be missing. The shadow moves and is revealed to be the dragon Faerlin warned the group about. She snatches Trix and carries them up to the roof of the stronghold. As she climbs, Trix tries to escape her grasp but there is a thin mucous substance that prevents them from getting good traction.
Meanwhile, Raspy leads Eight from their cell, through the fortress and down to a “purification chamber” where four cultists stand on opposite walls. On a platform, in the center, lies the body of Rou. Eight is forced to come to terms with the reality of The Dragon’s words, and their anger is stirred. Before leaving Eight alone, Raspy removes Eight’s manacles, claiming the cultists did this to Rou. Once the door shuts, the cultists draw in closer.
Lunahse has come to defend Rou from Death’s deal: give up your werewolf form and you can return to your friends. Rou at first is comforted, but quickly feels very small when the gods begin to argue over his soul. Lunahse offers Death a deal on Rou’s behalf, which Death seems keen to take. Rou agrees to the deal, and discovers that he is now Death’s servant in Rejiev.
